THE THORN IN PAUL’S FLESH WAS NOT SICKNESS OR DISEASE THAT GOD USED TO MAKE PAUL "HUMBLE"

2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

The issue of Paul’s thorn in the flesh is one of the texts which got some of us confused before now. There are Bible interpretation rules to follow in order to arrive at the right meaning of scripture texts. Verses, words or phrases must be read well in context. This is because some may be literal, idioms, figure of speech, etc.

Paul if could be remembered very well had problems with people wherever he went, people often stirred up strife and confusion at his preaching of the gospel so much so that he was even arrested for the message he preached about Jesus Christ and his resurrection from the dead.

That why in his epistle to the Thessalonian church, he asked that they should pray that he would be delivered from wicked and unreasonable men. Therefore, the thorn in Paul’s flesh was not an eye problem or any disease from Satan that troubled him as some preachers claim but people who always persecuted him because of preaching THE ONLY TRUE GOSPEL, the gospel of grace.

.Those people who persecuted him are who he referred to as thorn in his flesh, just as we refer to someone who irritates us thorn in the flesh so did Paul used that term as figure of speech. The true gospel of grace is all about Jesus and what he has accomplished for us in his death, burial, resurrection and glorification and our response to what he has done for us.
